On Thursday, July 17, Gateway Constructors paving crews completed mainline paving between McCutcheon Road and Clayton/Warson Roads. A total of 40,000 cubic yards of new concrete was placed along this 2.5 mile stretch of I-64 to construct eight new lanes of highway. Paving crews will next complete medians, shoulders and ramps and then begin mainline paving operations between McCutcheon and Brentwood Boulevard
I-64 Construction Activities At A Glance: July 2008
During the month of July major reconstruction continues all along the I-64 corridor.
At Spoede Road, the bridge over I-64 has been demolished and excavation continues for the new bridge foundations. Pile driving for the abutments and construction of the median pier is planned for early July.
The Lindbergh Boulevard bridge is nearing completion while work continues on the barriers, median, ramps and bridge approaches. Curb and gutter construction continues on Lindbergh below the bridge throughout the month of July.
At Clayton/Warson, all five bents (the support structures between the abutments that will hold bridge girders) have been constructed and girders have been set for much of the bridge deck. The remaining girders will be set by the end of the month.
The McCutcheon Road bridge has been demolished and excavation continues for the new bridge foundations. Pile driving for the abutments and median pier construction is planned for mid-July.
At Brentwood Boulevard, work continues on decking the east to north flyover ramp. Pile driving for the abutment of the south to west flyover will begin now that the old I-170 ramp over Brentwood is gone, and girders are planned to be set at the end of July.
Abutment work continues for the three bridges carrying the I-64 mainline over I-170 and the collector distributor roads for Brentwood and Hanley Roads. Girders are planned to be set at the end of the month.
The bridge deck for the Kingshighway Boulevard interchange is finished, though crews continue to work on sidewalks, medians, and other enhancements to Kingshighway Boulevard.
Soundwall construction continues between Ballas Road and McKnight Road.
Weather permitting, mainline paving will continue throughout July.
