Each school day, students, faculty and staff dedicate two minutes of reflective silence to the Examen of Consciousness. This simple exercise, inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, is a daily method of self-examination intended to help practitioners better serve the Lord. Each team is composed of homerooms from each of the four grade levels. Nearly 90% of students and 60% of the faculty participate in the program, competing in events such as basketball, music trivia, Thanksgiving canned food drive and "Mental Meltdown."

On average, less than one-tenth of one percent of all test takers nationwide earn the top score. Among the high school graduating Class of 2010, nearly 1.6 million graduates took the ACT. Of that number, just 588 students earned the top score, and three of them were from SLUH.
