SLUH XC Camp Week 2
The second week of the SLUH XC team summer camp will take place on July 21-24. A registration form is available here. The first meeting will be at Queeney Park by the tennis courts on Monday evening at 6:30 pm.

Alums Victorious Again!
The Alums guaranteed themselves a victory in the 2007 Alumni Race by taking the first three places on Saturday, August 11, at the Central Fields in Forest Park. The 2007 edition of SLUH XC placed runners in fourth through eighth but the alums took ninth and tenth to finish with 25 points vs the 2007 team's 30 point total. The 2007 individual champion was Ben Rosario, '98, who completed the 2 mile run in 9:54. John Oliver, '04, was second in a time of 10:12 and Matt Lawder, '07, was third in a time of 10:25. The top seven for the 2007 SLUH XC team were Caleb Ford, So, 4th, 10:39; Chris Murphy, Sr, 5th, 10:41; Bill Gabler, So, 6th, 10:43; David Kuciejczyk-Kernan, Jr, 7th, 10:44; Austin Cookson, Jr, 8th, 10:55; Ben Ford, So, 11th, 11:04; and Casey Fitzgerald, So, 18th, 11:17. Eighth Annual Alumni XC Race & BBQ
The 8th annual SLUH XC Alumni Race & Barbecue will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 9:30 am. The course is the same 2 mile course at the Central Fields in Forest Park. If you haven't signed up yet you should contact Coach Linhares at (314) 531-0330, Ext 289 or send him an e-mail at linhares@sluh.org asap. The cost is $15 and includes a "hip XC T-Shirt". The Barbecue will be held at SLUH following the race. The top 10 finishers in the Alumni Division will receive the coveted billiken statues.
Fall Practice Begin August 6
The 2007 Cross Country Team begins practice at 8:00 am on Monday, August 6. All sophomores, juniors, and seniors must be in attendance. Any exceptions should already have been worked out with Coach Linhares. We will meet at SLUH in the area of the St. Ignatius statue. You must have a current athletic physical on file in Mr. Gilbert's office to participate. If you do not get your physical turned in by Friday, August 3 you will have to have Mr. Gilbert check you in on monday morning. If you have a running log you should bring it with you. Be prepared to run a workout. Practice will be finished sometime between 11:00 am and noon.
Wednesday Tempo Runs
The first week of camp is off to a good start. We will meet at the Central Fields in Forest Park for Wednesday's event which will kick-off the regular Metro Forest Park tempo runs. All are welcome to join in the fun.
Time to Put the Hay in the Barn
It is time to begin preparations for the 2007 XC season. Weight training begins on Tuesday, June 4, for those who have registered. It is not too late to sign up. Be on hand at 9:30 and fill out a registration form. The first week of running camp takes place next week at SLUH. Registration in advance is helpful, although not absolutely necessary. The Road to Jeff City
The Varsity Cross Country Team will compete in the District 3 meet at Parkway Central High School on Saturday, October 21, at 9:30 am. The top 4 teams from the district will move on to the Sectional 2 meet hosted by SLUH at the Central Fields in Forest Park on Saturday, October 28. The top four team from the sectional race will compete at Hough Park in Jefferson City on Saturday, November 4 to determine the 2006 state champions. SLUH is the defending district and sectional champion and hopes to improve on its 4th place finish at the state meet last year.
XC Victorious at MCC Championship
The Varsity, JV, and Freshman squads were victorious Saturday, October 7, at the MCC Cross Country Championships. On the varsity level, SLUH (38) was followed by CBC (46), DeSmet (64), Chaminade (88), and Vianney (141). Matt Lawder was the top finisher for SLUH, finishing second behind CBC's Dan Quigley, in a time of 15:33. In the Junior Varsity race, SLUH (19) defeated DeSmet (54), CBC (84), and Chaminade (382). Junior Stephen Schumacher was the individual champion of the JV race with a time of 17:09. The SLUH Freshman (17) completed the sweep finishing ahead of DeSmet (105), Vianney (159), Chaminade (162), and CBC (216). SLUH's Caleb Ford finished first in 17:11.
MCC Meet This Saturday
The Metro Conference Championships will be held on the Chaminade High School campus on October 7, 2006. The Varsity race will begin at 9:30 am. The JV race starts at 10:10 am and the Freshmen race will begin at 10:50 am. All races start and finish on the baseball field behind the dormatory. SLUH will try to defend their 2005 titles on all three levels.
Rim Rock Classic
The SLUH varsity travelled to Lawrence, Kansas and took on some of the top teams in the Midwest at the Rim Rock Classic. Led by Matt Lawder (6th place in a time of 16:19.6), the team took 2nd place in a field of 23. Others winning medals were Mike McCafferty (15th, 16:47.5), Dan Viox (17th, 16:51.5), and Nate Banet (20th, 16:54.3). Rounding out the top seven with excellent races were David Kuciejczyk-Kernan (50th, 17:34.0), Caleb Ford (54th, 17:36.5), and Austin Cookson (71st, 17:48.0). 158 runners completed the race.

Other Team News
C-Team XC Begins August 8.
The C-Team Cross Country will have its first practice on Wednesday, August 8, at 9:30 am at SLUH. We will meet near the statue of St. Ignatius. In order to participate in practice you must have your physical on file in Mr. Gilbert's office. There will be a check in process followed by a run so come dressed to workout. You will be assigned a gym locker which you are free to use to store personal items during practice. Practices for the remainder of the week will start at 8:00 am with the rest of the Cross Country team.
JV Ends Season With Win At Findley Inv.
The SLUH JV Cross Country Team finished its season by winning the Findley Invitational on Wednesday, October 25. The 5K race was held at the Central Fields in Forest Park. SLUH score 23 points to finish well ahead of second place CBC (75). SLUH sophomore Austin Cookson was the individual champion with a time of 17:17, finishing 38 secondsahead of his nearest rival. SLUH took 10 of the top 20 places and then had the next 8 finishers.
Freshman Attempt to Finish Season Undefeated at Findley Invitational
The 2006 Freshman Cross Country Team will attempt to complete the season undefeated at the Findley JV/C Invitational at the Central Fields in Forest Park on Wednesday, October 25. The freshmen have won their five previous races. This race provides a final opportunity to reach the varsity standard of 18:15. Ben & Caleb Frod and Tyler Jennings have already bested this mark and several others have come close. Casey Fitzgerald (18:28), Bill Gabler (18:25), Tony Minnick (18:19), and Zach Thomas (18:22) have all run within 15 seconds of the mark.
JV Season Will End at Findley Invitational
The Junior Varsity season comes to a close on Wednesday, October 25 with the running of the Findley JV/C Invitational at the Central Fields in Forest Park. The race will begin at 4:30 pm. Last year the weather was perfect for racing and most runners responded with their best time of the season. The team is again primed for peak performances. Several runners will be trying to reach the varsity time standard of 18:15 or earn the right to trade their white team t-shirt in for the coveted blue t-shirt by running 17:45 or better.
