Fall 2008

Swim Team Honors Seniors, Team

The fall 2006 version of the Swimming & Diving team capped off their successful year with their annual banquet.

After beginning the evening with a Mass, said by team coach Fr. Jim Knapp, SJ, the team headed to the Danis Lobby. Coach Long began by reiterating the goals for the team: (1) Personal bests for everyone; (2) win JV & Varsity MCC's; and (3) qualify for every event at state. Coach proudly announced that the team had accomplished ALL of these goals.

Next, Coach honored the top point getters for the year by class: Alistair Vierod (Fr), Will Derdeyn (So), Kip Tandler (Jr), and Jake Roeckle (Sr). Then, Tim Dale (Jr) was announced as the top point getter for the entire year.

Continuing with handing out hardware, Coach presented the 2006 winner of the 'Man for Others' award. A tradition started when Coach Long became head coach, this award goes to the senior who best lives out the Jesuit motto of being 'men for others'. This year, Kerry Read was the receipient of the award.

After letters were handed out to all swimmers, and each senior was specially honored, the captains each said some kind words for Coaches F. Long, LeBrun, Penilla, Knapp, & P. Long and presented them with coaches gifts.

The night concluded with the senior parents presenting their sons with embroidered towels that said SLUH SWIM & DIVE TEAM 2006, and had their name on it. Everyone would agree that it was a great way to finish off a great year.
