Chess Club
The SLUH Chess Club gives students the opportunity to improve their chess game through formal and informal competition. The club practices twice a week November through early March. Practices will be held on Mondays this year from 3-5 p.m. in the Ignatian Conference Room (at the west end of the Art Wing hall), and on Thursdays during Activity Period in the same location. Any student is welcome to come.
The Chess Club sponsored a schoolwide chess tournament after school during the week of November 12. All students, faculty, and staff were invited. Senior Mike Watt emerged as the winner. Sophomore Peter Harris placed second, and sophomores Kyle Felts and Alex Placke rounded out the final four.
SLUH also competes in the Gateway Chess League. The top five players in the club play against other schools in matches on Wednesdays. SLUH students also can play chess in Saturday tournaments sponsored by the league. Information about the Gateway Chess League, along with weekly match reports once the season begins, can be found here. Or click on the match results below.
