Accolades Continue for SLUH Track
The St. Louis University High track program kicked off its inaugural year in the new track facility in 2006 by earning a state championship, the first in school history. Recently, Jim Linhares received Coach of the Year Award. Now the school's track has been named 2006 Track Facility of the Year by the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA).
"We are very proud to be recognized by the American Sports Builders Association," says Patrick Zarrick, SLUH Facilities Director who has managed construction of the various VISION 2000 components, including the track. "The quality and thought put into the design and construction of the facility was exceptional. The facility symbolizes our mission to provide excellence without extravagance."
Construction of the track, which encircles the new synthetic soccer field, originally began in 2004 with demolition of the warehouses on SLUH's campus. Throughout 2005 the ground surface was graded and prepared to lay the track. Part of this process included remediation of several sinkholes. Later in 2005, Defargo Sports Surfaces, based in Georgetown, Texas, began the installation process. The project was complete by the spring of 2006.
"It was an extreme honor to work with such a prestigious school," says Rick Ediger, Vice President for Defargo Sports Surfaces. "Not very often do we come across an institution who wants to do everything right. SLUH stands heads above. We are extremely proud to be a part of this great project and are very pleased that the American Sports Builders Association recognized this outstanding facility."
"Defargo's installation team was first rate during the entire process," says Zarrick. "Their attention to detail, cleanliness and workmanship was evident throughout the installation. I can honestly say that I have not encountered another work crew that worked as efficiently or effectively as Defargo's team. We are very pleased with the product, which will benefit our student community both now and for years to come."
