SLUH Wins Cross Country State Title

The St. Louis University High School cross country squad showcased a total team effort to capture the state title on Saturday, November 3 in Jefferson City. While Parkway West senior Eric Fernandez won the individual title, SLUH topped the Longhorns 113-118 for the team title.

"It was really special watching the guys enjoy their victory and knowing how much dedication and passion had gone into making it possible," says coach Jim Linhares.

Junior John Clohisy led SLUH with an 18-place finish. Other teammates who helped earn the school's first cross country state title since 1999 include junior Austin Cookson (26th place), senior Dan Warner (27th place), sophomore Caleb Ford (49th place) and senior Chris Murphy (55th place).

"It was such a relief after the race was over and we learned the final results," says Linhares. "I knew these guys were potential champs and that we would be hard to beat. But I also know you don’t always get your day and that we had a few other teams tough enough to challenge."
