The agenda for each Direction Day includes:

8:00 a.m. - Parents drop off freshmen, who meet in Main Chapel

8:20 a.m. - Students bussed to Green Hills farm

3:00 p.m. - Parents meeting in the library with Mr. Laughlin, Dr. Moran and Guidance Department

4:30 p.m. - Mass in Main Chapel for students and parents

5:30 p.m. - Dinner in Danis Lobby
What if I can't come on my scheduled Direction Day?
You should receive a letter about your Direction Day. For futher information, please contact Brian Gilmore at bgilmore@sluh.org, or Tim Curdt at tcurdt@sluh.org.
What is Freshman Orientation Day? Is it different from Direction Day? When is it? Is it mandatory?
After all of the Direction Days are finished, the entire freshman class attends its mandatory Freshman Orientation Day at SLUH on Wednesday, August 17. They should report to their homeroom at 8:30 a.m. and be in warm weather dress code. The event will end at noon. Classes officially begin the next day, Thursday, August 18.
What do I have to read this summer?
Summer reading book selections for the 2011-12 school year can be accessed by clicking HERE. Summer books are available through MBS Books, our online textbook provider. Information on textbook purchasing is listed below.
When do Fall sports begin?
The Fall 2011 sports season officially begins on Monday, August 8th. The number of the SLUH Sports Line is (314) 531-0330, press #5.
All freshmen must have a physical on file with Mr. Gilbert BEFORE they begin practice. Click the link below to obtain a physical.

When do I get my books?
Further information regarding this for the 2010-11 school year will be posted when it is available. SLUH's online bookstore can be accessed by clicking HERE.
When is the bookstore open?
During the school year (for regularly scheduled days):
Before school: 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.
Activity Period: 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
After school: 2:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
What happens if I lose or forget my PowerSchool user ID and password?
Contact Mrs. Kim Gohl at (314) 531-0330 x100 if you lost or forget your PowerSchool access information.
How do students apply credit for cafeteria purchases on their student ID?
The student simply gives the money or check to one of the cashiers in the cafeteria and the amount will be applied to their account.
Do the students purchase a lock from SLUH?
Yes. Only locks bought through the bookstore or Mr. Kesterson’s office may be used on school lockers. This includes athletic, PE & band lockers.
What do I need to know about the first mixer?
SLUH mixers are very popular! Only SLUH males are allowed to attend, whereas any female student with a high school ID may attend. The dance does fill up and when the gymnasium reaches capacity we do close the doors, so plan on arriving early. Details about cost and times can found on the website of by listening to the announcements in school.
The work grant program? Expectations? Number of hours?
Mr. Craig Hannick (channick@sluh.org or ext. 2098) is our contact person for all Work Grant questions. Answers may vary from student-to-student, so it is best to address questions about Work Grant to him directly.
Where can we find more information on the Commons Construction?
You can view both our progress and our expectations for the new Student Commons through our website at http://www.sluh.org/about/facilities/commons_construction/.
Are the SLUH gym shorts and shirt required?
Yes, students must wear a SLUH issues t-shirt and shorts for PE classes.
What type of supplies are needed? Should we wait until the first day?
Generally each teacher will issue a list of the necessary supplies on the first day or two of class. Students may want to wait until they have received all of these lists before purchasing supplies.
Please explain the JUG system.
A JUG (Justice Under God) is a one-hour detention served after school for receiving 4 or 5 demerits. Some offenses may warrant an automatic JUG. Students are to report immediately after school to the Assistant Principal for Student Life to serve the JUG. JUGS must be served either that day or the following day.
Is CASHBAH April 14 or March 31?
March 31.
Can parents attend school masses?
Absolutely. Our first Mass of the year will be at College Church on the campus of St. Louis University, so seating may be tight, but in general all parents are welcome to all of our liturgies, including the 7:20am weekday Masses.
Do students return to lockers between classes?
They can, but with only 4 minutes between classes, it sometimes makes sense to take books for 2 or 3 classes at a time. Many students switch books at Activity Period or Lunch Period.
Do backpacks stay in the lockers during the day?
Yes.
Does my son need a locker and lock if he is in band?
Yes, assuming he plays an instrument that will be transported back & forth to school.
Where is the best place to pick up my son?
Students may be picked up on the driveway East of the Science Center parking lot or in front of the Drury Plaza (Soccer/Baseball entrance).
Who can we contact to inquire about a schedule change?
Though all schedule changes are ultimately approved by Mr. Tom Becvar, the Assistant Principal for Academics, we recommend you contact your son’s counselor first to discuss any potential changes.
Is the SLUH app available on the Android market or only on iPhone?
Our student-created app will soon be available for Android as well – stay tuned!
If buying my freshman a laptop do you suggest an Apple or is Windows OK?
Either is okay. Virtually all of the school’s laptops and desktop computers are Apple, but once a student registers his laptop (or any device with network capability) with the school’s Technology Office he can access the school’s network regardless of the make of the device.
